have been doing maternity photography for years, with some good results, but when Laura allowed me to photograph her nude, well, a whole new world revealed itself. I always loved doing this type of photography but some how felt something was missing. As it turns out, it was that not enough was missing. Clothing, any type, no matter how elegant, detracts from the image, from the pure artistic quality of a maternity portrait, so my suggestion, take it off and lets make art! But then again, it sure helps when you look like her!

eema and Nat's wedding is going to be a traditional Indian wedding this June 25-27th in Detroit. They are expecting nearly 500 guests to attend this two and one half day wedding extravaganza. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Indian weddings the Baraat is when the groom and his family and friends arrive to meet with his bride then both families bestow blessings on the bride and groom. Well... the grooms arrival is a pretty raucous affair, he is accompanied by musicians, drummers and dancing and singing is the rule . The groom usually arrives by horseback

ere are a few of the engagement portrait session we had just the other day here at our studio at South Street Seaport in New York City. Even though it was a perfectly sunny day we spent most of the shoot in the studio coming up with some pretty different and creative ideas. On her wedding day coming up in June, Seema and Nat will be dressed mostly in traditional Indian wedding garb so they brought to the shoot something they would not be wearing on the wedding day. The proofs from that session is in my proof site , so if you want to see more just click here.

and how we get there.....

To Wedding Photography

Rowe Bound

O
One of my favorite things to do is portrait photography, I feel it offers the most opportunity for one to be truly creative. Candid or photo-journalistic style at a wedding is the bulk of the work, the documentation of the day-extremely important and valuable, but for great candids, there is a certain amount of luck and stamina involved, oh yeah-experience don't hurt either. In portrait photography, being in the studio or on location has nothing to do with timing, luck or being in the right place at the right time. It has everything to do with experience, lighting, concept and knowing what you want. My favorite type of portraiture is what some may call editorial...having a concept or theme, perhaps building a set and lighting to create a mood.

Fabrice Bound

These particular portraits are studio set ups with a white box as a set... they are part of an ongoing series called "Bound". After shooting a number of models I decided to see what I could do with a bride. The young woman is Marie and she is an actual bride whose wedding I photographed this year in New York. The possibilities are endless and I plan many many more like this.

Hollywood 1940 Style

F
or the near future... I would like to take brides and grooms and make it all even more special and give even more... I propose a separate day shoot of the bride and groom in a real editorial style photo shoot. Holly wood portraits, sets, vintage cars, whatever ideas and fantasies that we can come up with, from fashion to the comical. Letting our imagination to run riot. Anyone up for this? More can be seen on my website at 'Healthy Bodies" and "Portraits".

The gown in these two photographs were provided by Liz at Designerloft and the gown's designer is, Yumikatsura.

I have been building a new website these past six months and on the contact page it called for a photograph. I thought the typical and expected thing would to have a photograph of myself or something of that ilk, but me being me, I needed to do something a little more ambitious. I asked myself who uses phones often? Secretaries, marketers, telephone operators and bookies! Yeah that was it a shot of a bookie in his office, blackboard behind him, lots of phones, vintage phones, thats it! 1940,1950 look, black and white. Now where do I find a model? In my own backyard, Ron is a good friend of too many years and perfect for the shot. What do you think? Comments are welcome. By the way, he's a Fulbright winning architect.

We are very honored and pleased that they like out photography so much that they have returned to us for a number of years. Every year they have been coming up with a new twist on what the session should be about and this year it was about elegance and dress. Tuxedos and formal gowns...
We started at the The New York Palace Hotel where the Diamontes booked a room for a few nights, if you have never seen The Palace Hotel, well, check out the website and you can see just how festive this place can be during holiday season.
A great portrait session wandering around Times Square where all the tourists could not imagine or quite place the celebrities they thought they where just because they had a photographer following them around. I can't tell you how many times I get mistaken for a paparazzi and my clients as celebrities.
